Boxer Puppies for Sale in Florida

Boxer puppies, and Boxer life, across Florida.

In Florida, a Boxer's year is mostly warm, with a short, pleasant winter and a long, wet summer. The state is built around water, from the Gulf and Atlantic beaches to the lakes and retention ponds behind many subdivisions, and that shapes daily life with a dog here. Condo and HOA pet rules are worth reading closely, too. With shade, air conditioning and a little caution near water, a Boxer can be very happy here.

Boxer Life Across Florida

Miami

Much of Miami living is condos and apartments, and many buildings cap pet weight or the number of pets, so get the rules in writing before you buy or rent. Bark Beach in North Beach, on Miami Beach, has set off-leash hours, and Haulover Park has an off-leash stretch of sand. Farther out, Kendall and Homestead offer houses with fenced yards. Walks happen at sunrise, before the heat and the afternoon storms build.

Tampa

Tampa Bay is good dog beach country. Davis Islands has a fenced off-leash beach right in the city, and Fort De Soto Park in Pinellas County has a dog beach and fenced dog areas for large and small dogs. South Tampa bungalows tend to have small yards, while Brandon, Riverview and Wesley Chapel offer newer homes with more room for a Boxer to run.

Orlando

Orlando is a suburban city, and plenty of homes have a yard, often backing onto a lake or retention pond. Lake Baldwin Park in Winter Park (permit required) is a large fenced off-leash park beside the lake, and a favorite for big, playful dogs. In summer, afternoon thunderstorms roll in almost daily, so plan walks for the morning, and give a Boxer that fears thunder a quiet room.

Jacksonville

Jacksonville covers a huge area, so housing ranges from older homes under oak trees in Riverside and Avondale to big suburban lots in Mandarin and out toward the beaches. Kathryn Abbey Hanna Park welcomes leashed dogs, including on its stretch of Atlantic shore. Winters here run a little cooler than in South Florida, which gives a Boxer more comfortable walking weather from November to March.

The Part That Surprises Florida Boxer Owners

Cane toads

Cane toads live across South and Central Florida, roughly from the I-4 corridor south, and they come out on warm, wet nights. They release a toxin from glands behind the head, and a Boxer that mouths or licks one can be in danger within minutes. Signs are heavy drooling, red gums, head shaking and stumbling. Wipe the gums, rinse the mouth with a hose pointed outward, not down the throat, and get to a vet.

Alligators near water

Alligators live in lakes, rivers, canals and retention ponds all over Florida, including in the middle of neighborhoods. A dog splashing at the edge looks like prey, and a gator can strike from water that seems empty. Keep your Boxer leashed and a good distance back from the bank, skip dusk walks along ponds, and never let your dog swim in fresh water you do not know.

Hurricane season

Hurricane season runs from June through November, and a storm can mean days without power or a sudden evacuation. Build a dog kit early: food, medicine, vaccination records, a crate, a leash and a recent photo. Find out which local shelters and hotels accept large dogs before you need one. Many dogs are rattled by wind and thunder, so a familiar crate and blanket help a Boxer settle.

Keeping a Boxer Happy in Florida

Florida asks you to work around heat and humidity for most of the year. Daily exercise is still essential, so you walk at sunrise, play in the evening, and save the middle of the day for indoor games and naps under the air conditioning. Mosquitoes are around all year, so heartworm prevention never takes a season off. Some Boxers take to water and some never do; if yours swims, make sure it knows where the pool steps are, and rinse the short coat after salt water. Drool on the floor after every drink is part of the deal. Boxers dislike long hours alone, and in a condo a bored one can be noisy, so a midday walker helps if you work long shifts. The winter months are the reward, with cool mornings that suit long walks.

What Florida Families Ask Us

How do I keep a Boxer cool in a Florida summer?

Run the air conditioning, walk early and late, and keep outings short when the heat index is high. Give shade and fresh water in the yard, and bring your Boxer inside rather than leaving it out in the afternoon. A cooling mat and a shallow kiddie pool help. Panting that will not settle, a dark red tongue or wobbling means you should cool your dog and call a vet.

Can I take a Boxer to the beach in Florida?

Yes, but only on beaches that allow dogs, and many Florida beaches do not. Good options include Bark Beach on Miami Beach, the Davis Islands dog beach in Tampa and the dog beach at Fort De Soto Park. Go early before the sand heats up, bring fresh water so your dog does not drink salt water, and rinse the coat afterward.

How far is Macedonia, Ohio from Miami?

At about 1,220 miles, roughly 19 hours by road, Miami is a long drive from Macedonia. With a flight nanny your puppy travels in the cabin with a person beside it the whole way, and you meet it at your local airport.
